What is Send Vid?

SendVid is an open-source web application designed for lightweight video hosting and distribution. It solves the friction associated with sharing raw video files online by providing a clean, unbranded target for file uploads. Web developers, system administrators, and content creators use SendVid to convert binary video files into accessible web links and embeddable player elements. The platform accepts standard media formats—including MP4, WebM, and MOV—and processes them into centralized resources. Once an upload finishes, SendVid generates a unique web URL alongside standardized HTML snippet code. This output allows third-party websites to play hosted video assets directly within standard browser frame elements without relying on third-party video networks. First, SendVid generates direct video streaming links for web integration. For instance, an uploaded 45 MB video file yields a distinct URL such as `https://sendvid.com/v/a1b2c3d4`, allowing direct resource loading in custom HTML5 video elements. Second, it auto-generates responsive HTML `<iframe>` embed codes configured with standard 16:9 display ratios. Third, it provides immediate asset playback without enforcing user account creation or viewer tracking scripts. Compared to commercial platforms like Vimeo or Wistia, SendVid offers a minimal feature footprint focused entirely on asset delivery. While commercial services charge monthly subscription fees for unbranded embeds, SendVid gives administrators complete control over storage locations and streaming bandwidth.

How it works

When a user submits a media file through SendVid, the web application handles the file transmission using standard HTTP multipart form data protocols. The backend web server parses the binary payload, performs file extension and MIME-type validation, and assigns a unique hexadecimal identifier to the incoming object. Consider an example where a developer uploads an uncompressed `demo.mp4` file measuring 120 MB. The backend writes this file to a designated storage directory or object storage bucket, creates a corresponding reference record in the database, and maps the unique ID `e5f6g7h8` to the stored file location. The application then returns a structured response containing the display interface route and embed parameters.
